The Preservation Hall Music Education Program

The Preservation Hall Music Education Program was started by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band with the aim of continuing the rich heritage of music in New Orleans.

The Preservation Hall Jazz Band derives its name from Preservation Hall, the venerable music venue located in the heart of New Orleans' French Quarter, founded in 1961 by Allan and Sandra Jaffe. The band has traveled worldwide spreading their mission to nurture and perpetuate the art form of New Orleans Jazz. Whether performing at Carnegie Hall or Lincoln Center, for British Royalty or the King of Thailand, the music embodies a joyful, timeless spirit.

Post Hurricane Katrina, Preservation Hall's mission, to perpetuate the musical and cultural traditions of New Orleans, is more important than ever. Once again, New Orleans is at a crossroads. While many New Orleans Musicians rebuild their lives brick by brick, the Preservation Hall Music Education Program ensures the future of this great city's musical legacy by providing student musicians lessons with jazz masters, after school mentorship, and cultural and jazz awareness.
